Installation, Service & Repair

Marine Fridge & Freezers

Complete service, repair, and installation of marine refrigerators, drawer freezers, cockpit chest freezers, and bait freezers. We install, service and repair all brands — Isotherm, Vitrifrigo, Frigoboat, Sub-Zero, Dometic, U-Line, and more.

Overview

Complete fridge & freezers service — dockside, any brand.

Marine refrigerators and freezers work harder than any galley appliance ashore — running 24/7 in salt air, high humidity, and constant vibration while pulling from a shore-power, genset, or battery bank. Lee's Professional Marine Services installs, services, and repairs every major marine fridge and freezer brand on the water. Dockside, any hull, any age of unit.

A marine refrigerator is a completely different animal from a home unit. The compressor has to survive 30° heel angles, saltwater in the air, a 12V or 24V DC feed that swings between 11.8 and 14.4 volts, and duty cycles that don't stop when you leave the boat for a month. Danfoss / Secop BD-series compressors dominate the market for good reason — but they still fail, and when they do the whole system stops cold. Daniel diagnoses at your slip, brings a replacement compressor, control module, thermostat, or evaporator on the truck, and closes most calls in a single visit.

We service the full range of marine refrigeration: front-opening upright fridges (Isotherm Cruise, Vitrifrigo C-Series, Frigoboat), stainless drawer refrigerators and freezers (Vitrifrigo DW, U-Line Marine, Isotherm Drawer), top-loading icebox conversions (Isotherm ASU, Frigoboat W-series keel coolers), cockpit chest freezers used for bait and provisions on sportfish, and custom Sub-Zero and Manitowoc installations on larger yachts. Same-visit service on all of them.

The most common calls: 'my fridge isn't cold anymore' (usually a refrigerant leak, a bad Danfoss module, or a stuck condenser fan), 'the freezer is frosting up but the fridge is warm' (evaporator, thermostat, or air-flow issue), 'the compressor runs but nothing cools' (loss of charge or a failed capillary), 'water is pooling in the bottom of the fridge' (clogged drain or bad door gasket), and 'the compressor is drawing way too many amps' (dying compressor or a shorted start relay). Every one is a real diagnostic path — gauges, meters, thermistors, and the parts on the truck.

We install new units too. Retrofitting a 25-year-old front-load fridge with a modern Vitrifrigo drawer set or an Isotherm variable-speed cruise fridge often cuts amp draw in half and gives you real freezer capacity for the first time. Full install includes cabinet fit, drain routing, DC feed sizing, thermostat placement, and a written commissioning report with pull-down temperatures.

Every service call is a flat $240 that covers the first hour of on-site diagnostic and travel from Boynton Beach to Ft. Lauderdale. Outside that range is $60 per half hour of travel. Dockside, in your slip — no shop drop-off, no waiting on a yard.

Common problems we fix

The failure modes we see every week — and the parts we carry.

Not cooling at all

Usually a slow refrigerant leak, a failed Danfoss electronic module, a stuck condenser fan, or a dead thermostat. Gauges and a meter tell us which in the first 30 minutes.

Compressor runs constantly

Poor heat rejection from a fouled condenser, a bad door gasket, or an undersized DC feed dropping voltage. Cleared, resealed, or rewired on the visit.

Freezer works, fridge doesn't

On split units this is almost always an evaporator fan, damper, or thermistor issue. Same-visit repair with parts on the truck.

Ice buildup on the evaporator

Blown door gasket, high humidity, or a failed defrost cycle on frost-free units. Gasket swap or control-board reflash — same day.

Water pooling in the cabinet

Blocked drain line, cracked drip pan, or a bad door seal. Cleared, resealed, and pressure-tested for leaks.

Excessive amp draw

Failing compressor, shorted start relay, or a corroded DC feed. Metered before anything gets replaced.

How it works

From diagnostic to commissioned system — one visit whenever possible.

STEP 1

Dockside diagnostic

Refrigerant gauges, condenser inspection, Danfoss error-code readout, DC voltage-under-load test, and full thermistor / thermostat check.

STEP 2

Same-visit repair

Compressor swap, Danfoss module, thermostat, evaporator fan, door gasket, drain repair, or refrigerant recharge — most calls close the same day.

STEP 3

New install & retrofit

Cabinet fit, DC feed sizing, drain routing, thermostat placement, and full commissioning with a written pull-down performance sheet.

STEP 4

Preventative service

Condenser coil clean, gasket inspection, drain flush, and refrigerant top-off on a schedule that matches how you use the boat.

FAQ

Marine Fridge & Freezers — frequently asked questions

Do you work on Danfoss / Secop BD-series compressors?

Yes — that's the majority of what we see. We stock BD35F, BD50F, and BD80F compressors along with 101N and 102N control modules for Isotherm, Vitrifrigo, Frigoboat, and Nova Kool systems. Most Danfoss failures are actually the module or the wiring harness, not the compressor itself, and we meter every component before condemning it.

Can you install a new marine fridge or freezer in a slip?

Yes. Front-load fridges, drawer units, and top-load freezers install dockside. We handle the cabinet cut, DC feed sizing, drain, thermostat placement, and full commissioning with a pull-down test. No haul-out required.

My cockpit bait freezer stopped working — can you fix it?

Almost always yes. Cockpit chest freezers share the same Danfoss BD-series refrigeration architecture as your galley fridge. We diagnose refrigerant, module, thermostat, and DC feed in one visit and carry replacement parts on the truck.

How long does a typical marine refrigerator repair take?

Diagnostic is the first 30–45 minutes. Most single-fault repairs — thermostat, module, evaporator fan, gasket, refrigerant recharge — finish inside 2 hours. Full compressor swaps run half a day.

"Daniel did a repair of the refrigerator on my 1978 Bristol sailboat. I believe the unit is the original. I was prepared to have the entire thing ripped out and replaced. Daniel came out, spent hours testing and inspecting it, and got the unit up and running! I was very impressed. And the beer stays icy cold! I highly recommend Daniel for all your HVAC needs."
